Welcome to the Force Five Fast Five, a bonus episode where I cover things that I’m interested in that wouldn’t come up on a normal Force Five show. Today, I’m going to be covering the interesting things coming to streaming services in September 2020 on the four biggest streaming platforms - Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Max, and Hulu.

Netflix

On the 1st we’ve got 1997’s Anaconda. Join Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Owen Wilson, and Jon Voight as they hunt the world’s biggest snake through the Amazon. Also on the first, we get all three Back to the Future films, Pineapple Express, The Muppets and Muppets Most Wanted, the Hannibal Lecter story Red Dragon, Sex Drive, all six seasons of Sister Sister, and get ready to be hot and bothered with the dance moves of Channing Tatum as Magic Mike hits Netflix on the 1st as well.

On September 4th we get the new series Away, starring Hilary Swank as an astronaut who struggles with leaving her family behind as she embarks on a dangerous mission with an international space crew.

On the 4th we also get the new Charlie Kaufman film I’m Thinking of Ending Things, which I am so very excited for. This one stars Jessie Buckley, Toni Collette, and Jesse Plemons. Based on Iain Reed’s acclaimed novel, the plot revolves around a young woman who travels with her new boyfriend to his parent’s secluded farm. Upon arriving, she comes to question everything she thought she knew about him, and herself.

On the 7th we get Midnight Special, featuring Michael Shannon.

On the 10th you can continue the Babysitter story with the sequel The Babysitter: Killer Queen. This one is directed by McG, which means I have zero interest in it, but if you were a fan of The Babysitter, here’s your chance for more.

September 16th brings us The Devil All The Time, a Netflix original film about a young man who’s devoted to protecting those he loves in a postwar backwoods town teeming with corruption and brutality. This one has an absolutely stacked cast with Robert Pattinson, Tom Holland, Riley Keough, Bill Skarsgaard, Mia Wasikowska, Sebastian Stan, and Jason Clarke - really looking forward to this one.

On the 18th we get the prequel we didn’t know we wanted, Ratched. This is a prequel to 1975’s One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, which is considered by many to be one of the best films of all time. Sarah Paulson stars as Nurse Ratched - this could be really interesting. The show was co-created by Ryan Murphy who also created Nip/Tuck and American Horror Story, so you know it’s in good hands.

Finally, on September 23rd we’ll see Enola Holmes, a spinoff featuring Sherlock Holmes’s sister, starring Millie Bobby Brown from Stranger Things as our titular character and one of my very favorites, Henry Cavill as Sherlock himself.

Jumping over to Amazon, we get season 2 of The Boys on September 4th. I cannot wait for this - the first season was bloody and terrifying and the second season promises more of the same.

Hulu has a ton of films hitting on September 1st, so I’m just going to run through my favorites - The subdued Jason Statham movie The Bank Job, an all time trash gem, Demolition Man, Deuces Wild, Evil Dead 2, the stoner classic Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle, the incredibly fun Last Boy Scout, The Last House on the Left, Mississippi Burning, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, Some Kind of Wonderful, The Terminator, and our volleyball enthusiasts favorite, Top Gun.

On the 9th they’ll premiere their original series Woke, starring Lamorne Harris who you’ve probably seen in New Girl. It’s about a cartoonist on the verge of mainstream success when an unexpected incident changes his life.

On the 10th, it’s time to watch Prisoners with Jake Gyllenhaal, Hugh Jackman, and Paul Dano.

On the 18th, you can see the second season of PEN15 - I thought the first season was very funny and I’m looking forward to more of that.

And finally, on September 28th there are five TV shows premiering - season 2 of Bless the Harts, season 11 of Bob’s Burgers, season 19 of Family Guy, season 32 of the Simpsons, and the only one I care about - season 4 of Fargo.

HBO Max is freaking stacked too. I need to take a deep breath before this purge - on the first, we get Badlands, the hilarious Black Dynamite, Blood Diamond, City of God, Clerks, The Conversation, Dog Day Afternoon, Election, Final Destination 5, Harlem Nights, Midnight Run, The Outsiders, Three Kings, and V for Vendetta.

The series premiere of Raised by Wolves airs September 3rd, which revolves around androids tasked with raising human children on a mysterious planet. This was created by the writer of Prisoners, so how can you not be excited?

You can also watch the 2020 film The Invisible Man on September 19th, which has a great start and then falls apart in the second half. Still worth a watch.

Lastly, the big one on Disney Plus this month is the live action Mulan, which you can rent for $30 - it might sound expensive, but if you think about it, going to the movies as a group of three, you’ll spend that anyway. If you have a family, it’s a bargain. That’ll be available September 4th, along with the Mighty Ducks sequels.

That’s what you should be looking for in September on streaming services. I’ll see you soon for another five list. Until then, stay safe, stay sane, stream movies.
